Today we reveal the role that EcoBunker Ltd are taking in some of the most innovative and sustainable golf course construction projects from all around the world. In this edition, we stay close to home and spotlight the collaboration between EcoBunker and Brickendon Grange Golf Club, just to the north of London.
Brickendon Grange Golf Club collaborated with EcoBunker Ltd to transform their bunkers, addressing performance and maintenance challenges. Using our EcoBunker Advanced edge system and pioneering the Rainbird XFS dripline for golf courses, the project spanned two phases, focusing on greenside bunkers and major reshaping.
This innovative approach improved aesthetics, playability, and maintenance efficiency, leading to significant cost savings. The success of the project, marked by positive feedback from both management and members, has inspired other clubs to adopt similar technologies, highlighting the strengths of our expertise and power of innovation in modern golf course construction.
Location: Hertfordshire, UK
Course Type: Private members parkland course
Project Overview: Brickendon Grange Golf Club, a picturesque parkland course known for its hilly terrain and signature trees, opted for EcoBunker’s advanced bunker solutions. The installation of EcoBunker Advanced edge system and fully sealed technology was completed on nine greenside bunkers during phase one, with phase two set to feature eleven additional bunker complexes. After promoting the benefits of using civil engineering technology in golf course maintenance, EcoBunker Ltd provided the materials, construction expertise and training, enabling the Brickendon team to gain complete control over their bunkers.

A Pioneering Approach to the Rainbird XFS dripline
One of the standout features at Brickendon Grange is the implementation of the Rainbird XFS dripline, which ensures sharp presentation with minimal effort. Irrigation is invariably essential to maintaining golf courses in the condition that modern golfers expect. Of all the zones on any golf course, those most vulnerable to drought stress are the sandy areas around the edges of golf bunkers.
As part of their unrivalled commitment to golf and all types of bunker construction and maintenance reduction techniques, EcoBunker pioneered the use of this product, originally designed for the landscaping industry, on golf course bunker edges. Ecobunker Ltd designed and funded rigorous R&D and testing at the STRI turfgrass facility, refined and validated this system, showcasing its effectiveness and innovation in golf course maintenance. A great example of how EcoBunker drive innovation in our industry.
Recognising the benefits of this system, many other clubs have now followed Brickendon’s lead, including nearby Hertfordshire golf club, Hartsbourne Country Club, another beneficiary of EcoBunker’s products and services.
Implementation Details:
